Kitty Hawk, NC – Susan Cothran Dutt, 75, of Kitty Hawk, NC, formerly of Yorktown, VA, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2024. Born to Edward and Georgia Cothran in Anderson, SC, she earned a Master’s Degree in Nutritional Science from Clemson University and worked as a Registered Dietitian for 25 years, retiring in 2010 from Riverside Health Systems in Newport News, VA.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, David, her son Christopher Dutt (Natalie), and daughter Ansley Miller (Will), of Kitty Hawk, NC; her brother Tom Cothran, of Anderson, SC; and her loving grandchildren Leighton, Ryder and Everly Dutt, Christian, Caroline and William Miller, all of Kitty Hawk, NC. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Dr. George E. Cothran and her sister, Vadis Mandrell.
She loved and dedicated her life to the Lord and was a founding member of Harbor Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth City, NC, where she led and participated in women’s Bible studies and taught Sunday school, enriching the lives of the “Harbor Kids.”
“Mama Sue” wholeheartedly adored her grandchildren and could always be found at their many activities, encouraging their passions, and cheering them on as their biggest fan. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, watching Clemson sports with her husband, and was a Master Gardener with Dare County’s local extension. As a very caring and giving person with a calming presence, Susan was the glue of her family, known for her thoughtfulness through small gifts and notes of appreciation.
Susan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as an inspiration to many in the community. While she will be missed dearly by those that she has left behind, there is peace knowing that she has gone to be with the Lord, her ultimate reward in life.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 12-12:45 p.m., with a service following, beginning at 1 p.m. at Harbor Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth City, NC. Burial will take place at Laurel Memorial Gardens in Poplar Branch, NC.
