On Dec. 3, 2024, two women from Columbia died in a head-on wreck on NC 94.

The call came in at 5:34 p.m. and State Highway Patrol Trooper J.E. Kaukola responded.

Vonder Kay Spencer, 68, was traveling southbound on NC 94.

Kamisha Basnight, 38, was traveling north. A witness reports Basnight pulled out to pass a vehicle in the same lane and struck Spencer’s vehicle, which was going southbound.

No passengers were in the vehicles.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington-Tyrrell Counties Emergency Medical Services also responded to this incident.
