The Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series invites the community to celebrate the holiday season with an extraordinary musical event, Bach Magnificat – Sounds of Soul: A Holiday Celebration, featuring the Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Choir under the direction of Dr. Walter R. Swan. This festive concert will take place at St. Andrews By the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head on Sunday, December 8 at 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will support the Dare County Youth Orchestra, reflecting the spirit of giving and community that defines the holiday season, stated the event announcement.

Dr. Walter R. Swan, associate professor of voice and director of choral activities at ECSU, has carefully curated a program that celebrates the season with a rich blend of musical styles. From the majesty of Bach’s Magnificat to soulful spirituals, pop classics, gospel and jazz, the performance promises to be a powerful and uplifting experience for all.

The ECSU Choir has long been celebrated for its artistry and versatility, performing across the nation and internationally. Under Swan’s direction, the choir continues to build on its legacy, presenting a repertoire that transcends genres and resonates with audiences of all ages.

“Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and holiday spirit with Bach Magnificat—Sounds of Soul: A Holiday Celebration,” welcomed the Bryan Series announcement.

This performance is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged to benefit the Dare County Youth Orchestra.

A Mississippi native and accomplished baritone, Swan has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist, recitalist and with opera companies and symphonies. Lauded for his vocal mastery, Swan’s recording, He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands, is available on major music platforms. His dedication to mentoring young artists and his belief in the power of music to uplift communities inspire his work with the ECSU Choir.
