College of The Albemarle’s Student Theatre (COAST) is set to stage the spring production of “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” a musical by Dave Malloy that presents a contemporary and electrifying adaptation of a segment from Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.”

Auditions for ensemble roles will be held on Wednesday, December 18 and Thursday, December 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at College of The Albemarle’s Performing Arts Center. Auditions are open to individuals aged 16 and older. This presents a unique opportunity to participate in a production that has captivated audiences both on and off Broadway. The audition form is available at t.ly/ofUMk. Principal roles for this production have already been cast; auditions were held in September.

“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” is an award-winning musical that reimagines a scandalous segment of Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” with a modern twist. The narrative follows Natasha Rostova, who, while awaiting her fiancé’s return from war, becomes entangled in a whirlwind romance with the charming yet reckless Anatole. It is up to Pierre, a family friend grappling with his own existential crisis, to help Natasha restore her reputation. Featuring a daring score that blends classical themes with contemporary electropop, the production promises an innovative experience for musical theater enthusiasts.
