Brooke Kirk, a lifeguard at the Outer Banks Family YMCA in Nags Head, checks on her Little Free Library located at the base of the north ramp at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.

She launched the project in memory of her mom, Dorothy, who would have turned 98 years old recently.

“She loved reading, loved books and loved the beach,” Brooke said.
