The Tyrrell County Schools Board of Education has announced key leadership changes “to ensure continued excellence in education for our community,” noted a TCS news release.

Effective immediately, Audrey Curles has been unanimously appointed as acting superintendent through December 1, 2024. “Mrs. Curles, a dedicated educator with Tyrrell County Schools since 2005, brings a wealth of experience to this role. Her career in the district includes positions as classroom teacher, Media Specialist, Assistant Principal, Technology Director, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief of Accountability and Technology Director,” stated the release.

“Mrs. Curles’ extensive experience and deep understanding of our district make her the ideal choice to guide us through this transition period,” said Karen Clough, chair of the Tyrrell County Schools Board of Education.

The board also announced that Dr. Michael Bracy has been unanimously appointed as interim superintendent, effective December 2, 2024. Bracy brings more than 30 years of educational experience to Tyrrell County Schools. Bracy spent 13 years with Jones County Public Schools, including 12 years as superintendent and had recent interim superintendent roles in Camden County Schools and Pender County Schools. Additionally, he served as an interim principal at Topsail High School in Pender County and previous roles as teacher, assistant principal and administrator with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

“Dr. Bracy’s extensive experience, particularly in small districts similar to ours, makes him an excellent fit for Tyrrell County Schools,” commented Joni Liverman, board member. “His collaborative approach and commitment to student success align perfectly with our district’s values and goals.”

“The Board of Education is confident that this leadership transition will further strengthen Tyrrell County Schools’ commitment to providing high-quality education to all students,” stated the release. “Both Mrs. Curles and Dr. Bracy are known for their dedication to creating environments where every student can thrive.”

The community is invited to join the board in welcoming Curles to her new role and Bracy to the district. Further information about opportunities to meet the new leaders will be announced in the coming weeks.
