To address the unprecedented damage caused by Hurricane Helene, the Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF) Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to approve a series of grants to support disaster recovery in the affected communities of Western North Carolina.

To date, OBCF has provided more than $56,000 in grant awards from eight charitable funds managed by the foundation.

“The Outer Banks is no stranger to hurricanes, and we understand the need for immediate support after a disaster,” said Outer Banks Community Foundation Board Chair Jean-Louise Dixon. “We stand in solidarity with our fellow North Carolinians, and we want them to feel supported by the Outer Banks community in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.”

The grant awards were made to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, the Polk County Community Foundation, the Community Foundation of Henderson County, Samaritan’s Purse, and Bounty and Soul in Black Mountain.

The contributing funds were from OBCF’s Disaster Recovery Fund and the Greater Outer Banks Fund, and several donor-advised funds including the Simpson-Sharp-Oakes Fund, the Evans Family Fund, the Just for Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund in Memory of Dorman N. Doutt & Florence B. Satterwhite, and the Dorothy Scott Townsend Fletcher Memorial Fund.  Two additional donor-advised funds contributed anonymously.
