The Nags Head Board of Commissioners is accepting applications to fill a vacant seat following the October 2 resignation of commissioner Kevin Brinkley. Brinkley stepped down after moving outside of the town’s jurisdiction, in accordance with North Carolina law, which requires elected officials to reside within the areas they represent.
“Qualified Nags Head residents are encouraged to apply for the interim position,” stated a Town of Nags Head news release.
Applications are available online at NagsHeadNC.gov/ApplyBOC. Paper applications can be requested by calling the town at 252-441-5508. Completed applications must be submitted by 12 noon on Friday, December 20, 2024.
“If you’re a Nags Head resident and have thought about serving your community, we invite you to apply,” said Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon. “We’re committed to a fair and transparent appointment process that reflects the needs of our town. With the applications due by 12 p.m. on December 20, our goal is to select a candidate early in the new year who will work with the Board to further Nags Head’s vision and goals.”
The appointee will serve until a commissioner is selected in the municipal election on November 4, 2025. The appointee’s term will conclude at the December 2025 meeting. The board member elected in November 2025 will complete the remaining two years of Brinkley’s term.
For more information about the application process, go to NagsHeadNC.gov/ApplyBOC or contact Town Hall at 252-441-5508.
