July 9, 1947 – November 2, 2024
William Harvey “Bill” Waits, 77, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Manteo.
Bill Waits was born in Savanna, Illinois, on July 9, 1947, to the late Joseph Alexander and Millicent Jennette Waits. He was married to Andy Scarborough, who preceded him in death.
He has worn many hats over the years. Many jobs we just learned about recently. But his favorites are Mate and Booking Desk Agent at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, Carpenter, Teacher of Carpentry, Commercial Fisherman, Boat Captain, and Carpenter, again. He has refurbished many properties and built many properties and he and his crew built his daughter Bonnie’s house. He was Awesome! And as someone recently put, “One of the greatest storytellers of all time.” Bill loved NFL Football (Redskins, 49ers, Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs). He loved Baseball most of all and got to watch the World Series until the end thankfully. College Basketball and College Football (Both Carolina Tarheels.) He was a Card and a Character. A man like no other. And we love him So! He was Fiercely Loyal and an Animal Lover. The world has lost a truly good man.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024 at St. George’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, officiated by The Reverand Tommy Drake. The family will visit with friends following the service.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Charlene Mann (Michael) of Manns Harbor and Bonnie Jo Waits of Manteo and grandchildren: Farron Sims of Bishopville, MD, Carter Mann of Manns Harbor, Cole Mann of Chocowinity and Stormy Heroux of Wanchese. Great- grandchildren: Chase Sims, Blane Mann, Ella Mann, Wyatt and Gauge Cooper; niece, Bambi Scarborough; great-nephew, Tyner York of Manns Harbor; and many special cousins, such as Tommy Jennette and his daughter Yvette, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Judy Mann Waits, Bonnie Jo Waits and Jakey Waits English, and many beloved pets, Cool Breeze, his last and most cherished companion.
Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter.
