Every November, Dare Arts works with local businesses and artists to curate Outer Banks Veterans Week, which will run November 4-11 this year.

The purpose of Outer Banks Veterans Week is to showcase the Outer Banks as a welcoming destination for Veterans, active-duty military and their families through special events and ceremonies.

Dare Arts has two special events planned for Outer Banks Veterans Week, which include award-winning musicians from across the country that are known for supporting veterans through the arts.

“I think having this time to spend with one another, to share our individual experiences is a tremendous source of inspiration and empowerment,” said Dare Arts program director Robert Rogers. “The Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop is an opportunity to explore community, identity and a sense of belonging. It emphasizes the importance of listening to participants and allowing their interests and needs to shape the work in a safe, supportive space.”

Co-founder of Soldier Songs and Voices Tony Rosario, founder of the Veterans Writing Project Ron Capps and singer-songwriter-producer Jana Pochop will lead the 12th Annual Veterans Writing Workshop on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10.

Few spots remain for the songwriting workshop, which is free for veterans, active-duty military and their family members.

Although the workshop is free, pre-registration is required. Register online at DareArts.org/veterans or by calling Dare Arts at 252-473-5558.

The same musicians will play folk, Americana and indie music at the Outer Banks Veterans Concert, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 at The Pioneer Theater in Manteo.

Tickets to the concert are $5 with a military or veteran ID and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased online at ThePioneerTheater.com and at the door.

In addition to these two keystone events, there are also veteran events, ceremonies and specials happening from Southern Shores to Hatteras Island, which are listed in the Outer Banks Veterans Week Directory.

The free digital directory can be found online at DareArts.org/veteransdirectory.
