To the Editor:
Like you, we are heartbroken by the devastation in western North Carolina caused by Hurricane Helene.
Many of you in the West are facing significant hardship. Our hearts and thoughts are with you, and we hope you and your families are safe.
We may not know the widespread impact of this storm for many weeks, but we do know that repair and recovery will take years.
Many of you are grappling with how to best help. Community foundations and many other organizations across North Carolina are collaborating to support western North Carolina after the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene.
- To support ongoing recovery needs, give to The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina’s Emergency and Disaster Response Fund
- To support long-term recovery, donate to the North Carolina Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund
A wide range of groups are also providing support to western North Carolina, including:
- American Red Cross
- Diaper Bank of NC
- Operation Airdrop
- Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern North Carolina
- Wine to Water
You can contribute directly to any of the organizations listed above via the links provided. If you have a donor-advised fund with the North Carolina Community Foundation, you can recommend a grant to any of these organizations or others you would like to support by visiting NCCF’s Online Fund Portal.
You can find additional information about the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund and other efforts by visiting our website at nccommunityfoundation.org/helene. This page will be updated regularly and we will continue to share ways to help on our social media.
North Carolina is a state of generosity and we help each other during tough times. Our communities are counting on us to help them rebuild.
Thank you for your support of western North Carolina.
Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, NCCF President & CEO
