Ruth Perkins, Extension agent, 4-H Youth Development in Dare County, was awarded the T.C. Blalock Young Agent Award 1-3 Years at the 2024 North Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals Annual Conference held in Concord in August.

“In 2023, under Ruth’s leadership, Dare County 4-H developed programs in the areas of agriculture, family and consumer science, health and nutrition, and more,” stated the Dare Extension announcement of the award. “Embryology was brought back into schools for the first time in recent memory, and 4-H’ers began to take on leadership roles themselves. It was a year of growth for all.”

The purpose of the North Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals is to promote the profession of Extension 4-H and youth work in North Carolina. The 4-H program is the youth education program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, based at North Carolina State and North Carolina A&T State Universities. More than 260,000 young people ages 5 through 18 participate in North Carolina 4-H activities each year with the help of 16,700 adult and youth volunteers. Learn more about 4-H at nc4h.org.
