Dare Arts’ benefit art auction, The Great Art Heist, will open at the organization’s gallery in downtown Manteo on Friday, October 4 at 6 p.m.

The opening reception will include libations, hors d’oeuvres and live jazz music by Devin Frazier and Ed Tupper. The reception is in conjunction with Manteo’s First Friday festivities and is free and open to everyone.

“The Great Art Heist is Dare Arts’ only fundraiser of the year, and the event is very important to our nonprofit’s success,” said event chairs Bea Basnight and Gail Midgett. “We are so appreciative of the support from our artists, community, and TowneBank. Please join us in October to bid in The Great Art Heist.”

The Great Art Heist is a silent art auction, featuring the work of local and regional artists, that guests can view and bid on at the Dare Arts Gallery and online at DareArts.org/artauction.

Artists willing to donate a piece of artwork or a performing arts experience to The Great Art Heist can email Dare Arts gallery manager Tiffany Lindsey at DareArtsShows@gmail.com to coordinate details. “Your support is deeply appreciated,” noted a Dare Arts news release.

The Great Art Heist will be open for viewing and bidding from October 4 through October 25.

Final bids must be in by 7 p.m. on Friday, October 25.

TowneBank has supported The Great Art Heist since its inception.

“TowneBank is honored to return as presenting sponsor for The Great Art Heist, a commitment we have made each year for this event,” said Taylor Sugg, TowneBank Northeastern North Carolina president. “This remarkable event brings together hundreds of artists for a fine art display. We celebrate our partnership that supports Dare Arts’ mission to encourage the arts in Dare County through advocacy, enrichment, and opportunity.”

Additional support for this year’s event comes from Basnight Realty, Jane Webster, Chuck and Susan Kalan, and Gail and Elmer Midgett.
