Day at the Docks coming to Hatteras this weekend

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, the annual Day at the Docks Festival set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14.

The event’s roots are anchored to the local commercial and charter fishing. Day at the Docks continues to be a celebration of the resilient Hatteras community.

The event launches on Friday evening with the five-course “Seafood Under the Stars” dinner, a traditionally sold-out event with only 120 seats available.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, lots of events happen.

The Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation’s Chowder Cook-off kicks off Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 until 1 o’clock. The tasting fee is $10, and tasters will serve as the all-important judges, sampling the entries and voting for their favorites. Proceeds from every tasting ticket go to benefit the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation. The Chowder Cook-off is in a new location across NC 12 from Nedo’s True Value at 57866 NC 12, Hatteras.

Don’t forget the annual Seafood Throwdown, which takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chefs Tyler Naughton from Toucana Grill in Hatteras and Brandyn Powers from Froggy Dog Restaurant in Avon compete with a mystery fish.

The Fishy 5K run and walk take participants through the village. Register for the Fishy 5K run or walk by using the QR code found on the announcement at hatterasdayatthedocks on Facebook or visit the Hatteras United Methodist Church to sign up. The fee is $30 and benefits the church and village charities. The start bell goes off at 8 a.m.

The concrete marlin contest starts at 11 a.m. Blessing of the Fleet is scheduled for late, late afternoon.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., three areas will be open: an artist venue, education presentations and community organizations.

And, take in the Hurricane Awareness Town Talk at 3 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 13. The talk is set for the Hatteras Village Community Building in the heart of the village.
