A three-item Kitty Hawk Planning Board meeting held Thursday, August 15, 2024 included two favorable recommendations and a discussion on rooster guidelines.
By unanimous consent, board members voted to recommend approval for a request to create a two lot subdivision from a 2.41 acre parcel at 800 West Kitty Hawk Road and to reclassify piers as a permitted use with an amended maximum pier length of 400 feet.
At Town Council’s request, Planning Board members then discussed whether or not staff should draft a proposed ordinance regulating the keeping of roosters in Kitty Hawk. Included in the discussion was a review of results from an online survey.
The overall agreement on that issue is that there are enough noise ordinances and other restrictions on birds and other animals that no new language is needed.
Each of those recommendations will go to council for a final determination.
Other business for the evening included approval of meeting minutes from the June 27 meeting and a review of Town Council actions during its July and August meetings.
The next scheduled Planning Board meeting is 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 15.
