Nancy L. Wood of Nags Head peacefully departed from her earthly journey on August 27, 2024 at Currituck Health and Rehab. She was born August 18, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Preston E Thompson and Margaret Lorraine De Long Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Geoffrey L Wood in 1995, parents and sister Catherine Bourgeois. Nancy is survived by her sister, Sarah Jane Mills of Athens, OH.

Nancy received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 1959 and worked many years in private and commercial pharmacies. She retired from CVS Pharmacy in Manteo, NC. She enjoyed many years following pro golf with her husband Jeff, traveling and racing in her little red Corvette! An avid reader and lover of books, Nancy collected a large library and donated over 300 books to the Dare County Library this summer. She was also a gifted cross stitcher and enjoyed a good day of Bridge with her friends.

In recent years, Nancy required assistance in her daily living at her Nags Head home, and she truly had a village to surround and love her. Rick and Pauline wish to thank the following neighbors at The Villas for their many hours volunteered to ensure Nancy was safe and comfortable in her home and had fellowship around meals: Liza and Dave, Sue and Bob, Marlene, Linda C, Carie and Tony, Lee, Julie, Carrie H and daughter, Tricia and Craig, and others. You all exemplify the truest meaning of “Love Thy Neighbor,” and we love you!

Immense appreciation to Lea Ann Owens for her skilled care in the home and flexibility in adjusting her shifts unexpectedly. Special thanks to Nancy M and JR for their extra care beyond housekeeping, and finally, to lovely Rena for ALL you did to show love and care for Nancy and Pumkin! We also wish to thank the staff at Currituck Health & Rehab Barco, NC and Amedisys Hospice Plymouth, NC for providing comforting care in Nancy’s final days.

Nancy’s personal preference for the simplicity of cremation will be honored, and there are no plans for services at this time. In her memory, pick up a good book, enjoy the salty breeze on your face and take time to love your neighbor!
