Christopher Simpson was celebrated for three milestones in the police department at the August 6 Southern Shores Town Council meeting. First, Simpson was sworn in as sergeant at the meeting, alongside his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Ava.
Second, Police Chief David Kole recognized Simpson for earning his Advanced Certificate. Chief Kole said the program recognizes the level of competence of law enforcement officers serving in governmental agencies within the state of North Carolina, it fosters an increased interest in college and education and professional law enforcement training programs, and it attracts highly qualified individuals into law enforcement careers.
“This program is a method by which the dedicated officers may receive recognition for advanced education professional training on the job experience,” Kole said.
An Advanced Certificate requires approximately 720 hours of training and at least nine years of experience. Simpson served five years in Kitty Hawk and, at the August 6 meeting, was recognized for five years of service in Southern Shores, his third milestone of the evening.
“Please know that all of us in the community are so grateful,” said Mayor Elizabeth Morey as she presented Simpson with a plaque for his service to the town. “Thank you so much.”
Sophia Wright, from Portland, Oregon, and Tucker Melton, from Currituck County, were both sworn in as new police officers in town.
