Wreck on U.S. 158 results in fatality

On Monday, July 1, 2024, at 3:03 p.m., North Carolina Highway Patrol was dispatched to a wreck on U.S. 158 close to Shortcut Road in Currituck County.

The wreck resulted in a fatality, reported North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. D.C. Pridgen.

Two employees were delivering a Penske Rental vehicle when the driver went left of center. The driver sideswiped a minivan on the passenger sides and then struck a Dominion Power Class B service truck head on according to Pridgen.

Rental vehicle passenger Larry Walters, 87, of Virginia Beach, died. The driver is critical condition at Sentara Norfolk Hospital. On the afternoon of July 2, the investigation is continuing.
