Two Manteo women died following a crash on U.S. 64 on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Janice Bateman and Frances Brinn, both 82, were traveling east on U.S. 64. Bateman, the driver of the Ford sedan, moved into the turn lane and attempted to turn left into Pirate’s Cove on a yellow light, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. D.C. Pridgen with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a Ford F-450 carrying five people was coming off the Washington Baum Bridge traveling west. The Ford sedan failed to yield the right-of-way and the Ford F-450 crashed with the sedan. The time of the incident was just before noon.
