Three stellar First Flight Middle School track and field athletes will extend their regular season this weekend with an appearance at the Adidas Outdoor Track and Field Middle School National Championship meet in Greensboro.

First up will be Avery Thiessen in the girls long jump championship Friday afternoon, June 14, 2024. Thiessen broke the FFMS school record during the regular season with a leap of 15’9”. She clinched the conference championship with a record setting 15’5”. She could place in the top 10 in the country, and has a chance to medal by placing in the top 6.

Saturday morning, rising eighth grader Ella-Rae Reese will compete in the 400 meter race. Reese obliterated the school’s previous record in that event during the regular season with a time of :59.55 seconds. The old record, which had stood since 2011, was 4 seconds slower — almost an eternity in a sprint race. Reese placed first in both the 400m and 800m at the Albemarle Athletic Conference Championship.
