To The Editor:
OBX Room In The Inn just finished its sixth month of our season of food, shelter, and clothing for those in need.
In total for the six months, 1573 room nights and 5787 meals have been provided. With the help of the Nags Head Church the shelter was deep cleaned and returned to our landlord Jim Rose. We will continue to work toward our goal to become a yearlong shelter, but till then we will continue to support our guests at our intake center year around.
In April, our average age for the month was 49 years. We have had more younger guests this year. Year-to-date, the average age is 48.
In April we were treated to generous donations from Pizza Hut, and Slice Pizza. Everyone loves a pizza party! We received numerous gifts of food from events, and we are very grateful for all those donations. A special note of thanks to All Saint’s Episcopal Church for a donation from their 2024 After Dark proceeds.
Thank you to all who donated, attended, and purchased items at the Seaside Soiree Silent and Live Auction on April 21 at the Kitty Hawk Pier. Thank you to the Evans Family Fund, ORCA Wealth Management, Wilmington Treatment Center, and Jane Webster for sponsoring this event. We raised a record $35,000 that will impact and make a significant difference for Room in the Inn. It was the largest amount in the 15-year history of Room In The Inn. We still have a few items for auction on 2024 Seaside Soiree at givebutter.com/c/Qzry30/auction.
We are blessed no question, but we can’t forget those who give monthly and who donate food, clothing, shoes, cleaning supplies and needed personal items every month. They keep us going!
A special thank you to Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, Roanoke Island Presbyterian, Duck Church, and Colington UMC for blessing those in need and the OBX Room In The Inn in April with their support. Twenty-one churches across the OBX provided hot meals, needed supplies, monetary donations, and support that was invaluable to us over the last six months.
Thank you to everyone for supporting those in need and for partnering with Room In The Inn! It truly takes a village! We will begin sheltering again in November, until then we will be at our Intake Center, 111 W. Carlton Ave., Kill Devil Hills or call 252-255-1133.
To whom much is given, much is required,
