Elizabeth City woman indicted for murder in death of husband

The Elizabeth City Police Department has reported on the arrest of an Elizabeth City woman after she was indicted in the death of her husband.

ECPD officers arrested Tyisha Louella Major, 44, of the 1200 Block of Highland Avenue, Elizabeth City, with a true bill of indictment for murder. Major was processed at the magistrate’s office and later transported to Albemarle District Jail with no bond, according to an ECPD news release. Her next court date will be April 8, 2024 at Pasquotank County Superior Court.

“The Pasquotank County Grand Jury met on Monday, March 11, 2024, and returned a True Bill of Indictment for Murder,” stated the release. “Tyisha Louella Major was previously arrested on February 8, 2024 for Death by Motor Vehicle. In the February incident, Elizabeth City officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at White and Walston Street.

“The victim, Jermaine Calvin Major, 43 years of age of the 1200 Block of Highland Avenue, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, succumbed to his injuries,” the release continued. “The suspected driver of the vehicle, Tyisha Major, and the victim, Jermaine Major, were married at the time of the incident.”
