Geri Ellen Smith, age 66, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Geri was born to George and Becky Keel of Williamston on February 18, 1958. She graduated from Williamston High School, then furthered her education at Meredith College and East Carolina University. With a degree in education, she touched many lives as a special education and elementary school teacher.

Geri is preceded in death by father, George Keel. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Larry Smith; her mother, Becky Brown; two daughters, Rebecca (Evan) Williams and Lensey (Jeremy) Evans; a son, Evan (Zylie) Smith; a special cousin, Bonna Meadows; and three grandsons, Wyatt Williams, Royce Smith, and George Smith.

Geri was a “Blue Star” wife of her husband’s military deployments, of which she was very proud. She enjoyed many beach days, occasional fishing trips and never missed the opportunity to watch a good ballgame, no matter the sport. She never met a stranger and was the first to lend a helping hand to a friend or someone in need.

A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor Geri, including heavy hors d’oeuvres, will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Golden Leaf Room at Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the Hobgood Academy Preschool, 201 Beech Street, Hobgood, NC 27843 or online by visiting www.tmcfunding.com/search, then type Geri Smith.
