Registration is now open for the 15th annual North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) Red Drum Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23 to Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.
Mike Regan, NCBBA committee chairman, is working with his team to finalize some details for the event, which is held on the beaches of Hatteras Island.
The association is hoping for as many as 500 anglers who may fish on accessible beaches between Ramps 23 and 45 on Hatteras Island. Anglers can choose a spot to fish; his tournament has no assigned stations.
The 2023 NCBBA Tournament featured a record 455 anglers with 120 red drum caught and released.
Once again, two-session judges will be eligible for a $1,000 cash prize for the largest drum caught by a judge, while also vying for additional prizes which totaled over $13,000 in value in 2023.
President Al Adam, acting head judge for 2024, has started reaching out to last year’s judges and hopes to secure assignments for those wishing to return, including some who have judged every preceding tournament.
The tournament features individual and team categories. “The tournament is unique because team members are also eligible for individual prizes. Last year’s tournament brought a number of family groups to participate,” noted tournament organizers.
