Stabbing reported at Pasquotank Correctional, case under investigation

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has reported the stabbing of an inmate at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City.
According to a PCSO news release, on February 18, 2024 at 12:50 a.m., PCSO deputies were dispatched to Pasquotank Correctional Institute, located at 527 Commerce Drive in Elizabeth City in reference to an inmate that had been stabbed several times.
“When deputies arrived, Pasquotank/Camden EMS was already on scene assessing the victim who was identified as 38 year old Inmate Jamaal Shawkir Griffin. Inmate Griffin received 18 superficial lacerations from the assault on his head, shoulders, hands and legs,” stated the release.
Pasquotank/Camden EMS transported Griffin to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment, where Griffin was treated and released from the ER and transported back to Pasquotank Correctional, noted PCSO.
“Another inmate has been identified as a suspect in this investigation and a weapon (homemade shank) was recovered from that inmate’s cell,” the release continued. “That inmate has not been charged with any crimes at this time.”
The case is still under investigation as of Monday afternoon.
