Manteo citizens have opportunity to talk with commissioners about budget

On Feb. 7, 2024, the citizens of Manteo have an opportunity to talk with the Manteo Board of Commissioners about “community needs, requests, concerns and desires for the upcoming fiscal year.”

The town’s Board of Commissioners meets at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall.

A budget calendar presented to the board at its Jan. 17 meeting is “aggressive,” reported town manager Melissa Dickerson. The budget ordinance will be ready for adoption May 1, 2024.

Two budget workshops with the commissioners will be scheduled.

More opportunities are offered for public comment on Feb. 21 and March 6.

A proposed budget ordinance will be presented to the commissioners April 10. On April 17, a public hearing will be held on the proposed budget ordinance.

In action Jan. 17, the commissioners approved a revocable encroachment license for Old Tom Properties. The license allows 1,200 square feet of Fernando Street Access, owned by the Town of Manteo, to be used as a public safety driveway which also “may be used by guests, residents, visitors, lessees or vendors … for access to any improvements located at 100 Old Tom Avenue.”
