ECPD, ALE operation nets multiple charges

Officers from the Elizabeth City Police Department and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement conducted an enforcement operation on September 8, 2023 focused on alcohol violations, controlled substances and illegal firearms.
According to ECPD, the operation culminated in six alcohol charges, eight traffic offenses and 28 drug-related charges. Two local men were arrested and charged with multiple narcotic and weapon violations, noted ECPD.
Stanford Dantzler, 22, of Hertford, was charged and arrested for possession of firearm by a felon and eight drug charges including trafficking opium or heroin, in addition to resisting arrest. Dantzler is being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
Also charged and arrested was Rashawn Baum, 27, of Elizabeth City. Baum was charged with possession of firearm by a felon, eight drug charges including trafficking opium or heroin, in addition to several traffic offenses, fleeing to elude as well as resisting arrest. Baum is also being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
Additional charges are pending on other suspects in this matter, stated ECPD.
“The Elizabeth City Police Department would like to thank North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement for the partnership in this operation and for the continued support,” stated an ECPD news release. “This operation is a demonstration of the effectiveness of State and local law enforcement working together as a force multiplier. This law enforcement partnership will continue to operate as we target those individuals who insist on violating the laws of our community and State. The goal of this partnership is to make Elizabeth City a safe place to live, work and play.”
