Virginia man facing multiple charges following Frisco collision

A Virginia man is facing several charges following a two-car collision that took place on Saturday, July 15, 2023 on NC 12 near Frisco Mini Golf and Go Karts.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the wreck about 11:13 p.m.
David Godinez, 34, of Woodbridge, Va., was travelling north in 2019 Toyota Tacoma on NC 12. According to State Highway Patrol, Godinez crossed the centerline to pass a slower vehicle in front of him, then collided head-on into Sarah Dobbin, 42, from Wilmington, N.C., who was traveling south on NC 12. She was driving 2012 Honda CRV.
After the collision, Godinez fled the scene on foot leaving behind his two sons, ages 11 and 13, reports the State Highway Patrol.
Riding in the Dobbin vehicle were three passengers, two 11 year-olds and one age 8.
Dare County Emergency Medical Services responded. Dare MedFlight flew one person from the scene to a Norfolk hospital. Another person was transported to The Outer Banks Hospital and flown by Nightingale to a Norfolk-based hospital. Two people were transported to The Outer Banks Hospital for medical treatment.
Godinez made contact with the State Highway Patrol on July 18 and was subsequently arrested. According to State Highway Patrol, he was charged with four counts of felony serious injury by vehicle; felony negligent child abuse – serious bodily injury; felony hit and run; misdemeanor charges including child abuse, driving while impaired and speeding; and infractions including failure to wear seatbelt – driver, failure to secure passenger under 16 (two) and driving left of center.
Godinez entered a first appearance in Dare District Criminal Court on Thursday, July 20, 2023. His bond remained at $275,000.
