Exodus 6:13, “Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.”
This verse more or less sums up God’s plan for the Israelites. God had long ago promised their ancestors a land of their own. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had been told to look around, that all of this will be your descendants’ one day. These men never owned much more than a grave site. It is easy to get discouraged when things don’t happen or they don’t happen as quickly as we would like.
But God does not forget his promises. And how often have we said or heard, God’s timing is not like ours. We have to learn to be patient, to trust God’s timing, to remain faithful even when things don’t look like they are going to work out. And for these Israelite slaves in Egypt, that must certainly be the case. And yet, God has not changed his mind, he has not given up, he is not powerless to act. He is simply working on things at his pace, the right pace.
We need to remember this in our lives. No matter how dark things appear, God is still in control. No matter how hopeless the situation appears, God is still in control. No matter how unlikely or even impossible those dreams are, guess what, God is still in control. And our job is to remember that, to remain faithful, and to continue to live in a way that is pleasing to him.
Father, thank you for remaining in control. In Jesus’ name, amen.
