Martha Jean Allen, of Point Harbor, died at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kill Devil Hills, NC December 12, 2022 at the age of 86. “Jean” as she was best known was born August 14, 1936 in Webster County, Mississippi.

Jean was a serious scholar and a stand-out athlete. In 1954 she graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA. In 1959, Jean graduated from Radford College Women’s Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institution with a B.S. Degree in Education.

After completing her formal education, Jean began what would be a 30-year career with the Fairfax County Public Schools at Mount Vernon High School. She was employed as a health and physical education teacher and the assistant athletic director. In addition, Jean coached the basketball, soccer, and softball teams. During Jean’s tenure, her school won the Regional Softball Champion Team, and Gunston District Basketball Champion awards, and Jean was inducted into the Mount Vernon High School Hall of Fame.

Throughout her life, Jean was a woman of faith. For many years she was an active member of Belleview Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA; Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church in Kitty Hawk, NC; and North Lake Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake, FL.

Martha Jean Allen is survived by her two nieces, Siobhan Murphy and Aishling Bolinger and by her dearest and closest friend, Gail of the Point Harbor residence. Jean will be interred privately at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA. Memorial tributes in Jean’s honor are welcome to a worthy charitable organization of choice.
