Star Night events set for COA campuses

College of The Albemarle (COA) will hold its first 2022-23 Star Nights event, An Evening Under the Stars, on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 7-9 p.m. at COA – Dare, located at 205 Highway 64 S in Manteo. The event will take place in the amphitheater at COA – Dare.
“COA Star Nights is a fun and educational event featuring astronomy activities for all ages. View the craters of the Moon live through various telescopes! Take a guided tour of the constellations! Walk a half-mile scaled solar system,” stated a COA press release. “Learn about the latest findings in astronomy, including the James Webb Space Telescope.
“College of The Albemarle is excited to offer this free family-friendly event to our communities.”
Lisa Meads, dean of arts and sciences at COA said, “COA is excited to host COA Star nights, An Evening Under the Stars, at each campus across our seven-county service area this year. It is an excellent opportunity for our faculty and staff to grow STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) education in our local communities.”
Visit COA – Dare on August 19 to enjoy a range of astronomy-themed activities. This is a public event and all are welcome to attend. For those unable to attend on August 19, three more events are scheduled for 2022-23. COA Star Nights will also be held on November 4, 2022 at COA – Currituck; March 10, 2023 at COA – Edenton-Chowan; and April 21, 2023 at COA – Elizabeth City. All events begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
COA Star Nights events are made possible through grant support from Dominion Energy. The half-mile scaled solar system is made possible through support from Lowe’s.
