Local author Suzanne Tate has been charming children and parents for over 30 years with her Nature Series books featuring the many types of maritime and coastal creatures found on the Outer Banks.

From her first book Crabby & Nabby to Tommy Tuna, the final book in the series, she and James Melvin, a Nags Head illustrator and artist, have been educating and entertaining generations of beach lovers. Now she has put pen to paper once again and written Crabby Lady Looks Back: Life Stories by Suzanne Tate.

Behind Melvin’s brightly-colored cover illustration, even more colorful stories can be found about Tate’s experiences in U.S. Naval Reserve Training, her days as a Park Service naturalist, her time at the University of New Mexico and more. “Stories both heartwarming and heartbreaking, about love, loss and of course, writing,” stated a press release from Downtown Books. “It is truly an amazing inside look at an Outer Banks legend.”
