On Sunday, May 29, Waves Over War Festival starts at 5:30 and ends at 9 p.m. at the Kavon Park next to the Avon Pier on Hatteras Island.

The festival is a local effort to provide relief to the people of Ukraine.

Donations from the event will go directly to the World Central Kitchen, a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization that is currently providing meals to Ukrainian families in need.

Live music comes from After School Surf Club and Friends. The festival also features an array of local artisans as well as several food trucks, including locally famous Stu’s Food Truck and Roots and Leaves.

The event is free and open to the public, including canine visitors. Donations are encouraged in order to support the World Central Kitchen as much as possible.

The festival is organized by Elijah Thompson and Ellisa Thompson of Koru Village.
