Dare County Emergency Services has reported that a fiber cable that provides connectivity to Hatteras Island was damaged on the afternoon of Friday, May 13, 2022, causing the island to lose internet, cellular and landline phone service.
Those experiencing an emergency who are unable to contact 911 are advised to proceed to the nearest fire department or Dare County EMS station for assistance, stated a Dare County Emergency Management press release.
Crews have been dispatched and no additional information is available at this time, according to the release. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
