The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has reported that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause of the Friday death of an inmate in the Beaufort County Detention Center.

According to a BCSO Facebook post, emergency medical personnel were summoned to the facility at around 7:42 p.m. for an unknown medical emergency. “Their efforts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful,” stated the Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2022 post.

“In keeping with normal procedure, the Sheriff’s Office immediately notified the District Attorney’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation,” stated BCSO.
