Fatal wreck in Moyock claims life of Manteo man

A head-on collision in Moyock resulted in the death of an 87-year-old Manteo man.
The collision happened Monday, April 18, 2022 at 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of N.C. 168 and Ferrell Mill Road, reports the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Kyra Skinner, 26, of Barco, was driving a 2010 blue Ford Explorer traveling north on N.C. 168. She hydroplaned, lost control and traveled left of center. A four-year old girl was a passenger. Both were transported to Norfolk General Hospital.
The Explorer collided head-on with a 2019 red Ford Escape on the southbound inside lane. The driver was Stephen G. Basnight III, 61, of Manteo. His passenger was Stephen G. Basnight Jr., 87, of Manteo. Both were also transported to Norfolk General Hospital. Stephen G. Basnight Jr. succumbed to his injuries. Stephen G. Basnight III was reported in stable condition by the highway patrol on Tuesday.
Skinner is charged with driving left of center and unsafe speed for conditions.
Drugs and alcohol were not involved and not a factor in the wreck, reports the highway patrol.
