North Carolina legislative leaders have named House and Senate members to the Joint Legislative Committee on Access to Healthcare and Medicaid Expansion.

The Joint Legislative Committee was created in the recently passed 2021 state budget.

The purpose of the committee as identified in the budget document is to consider various ways in which access to health care and health insurance can be improved for North Carolinians.

House members of the Joint Legislative Committee on Access to Healthcare and Medicaid Expansion, appointed by House Speaker Tim Moore are:

Republicans: Rep. Donny Lambeth (co-chairman), Forsyth County; Rep. Larry Potts (vice chairman), Davidson; Rep. Kristin Baker, Cabarras; Rep. Larry Sasser, Cabarras, Rowan, Stanly; Rep. Donna White, Johnston; and Rep. Keith Kidwell, Beaufort, Craven.

Democrats: Rep. William Richardson, Cumberland; Rep. Brian Farkas, Pitt; and Rep. Charles Graham, Robeson.

In making the appointments, Moore said, “Members of the Joint Legislative Committee on Access to Healthcare and Medicaid Expansion will thoroughly investigate the healthcare needs in our state and explore all options to improve upon the state of healthcare in North Carolina. I have every confidence that the result of this committee’s work will benefit all North Carolinians.”

President Pro Tempore Phil Berger appointed the following senators to the Joint Legislative Committee:

Republicans: Sen. Joyce Krawiec (co-chair), Davie, Forsyth Counties; Sen. Ralph Hise, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Yancey; Sen. Danny Earl Britt, Jr., Columbus, Robeson; Sen. Lisa S. Barnes, Johnston, Nash; Sen. Kevin Corbin, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain; and Sen. Michael V. Lee, New Hanover.

Democrats: Sen. Dan Blue, Wake; Sen. Kirk deViere, Cumberland; and Sen. Mike D. Woodard, Durham, Granville, Person.

Berger made no statement in releasing his appointments.
