A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was shot and wounded while assisting other law enforcement officers with a car chase, officials said Tuesday.
According to a preliminary investigation, Trooper Kevin E. Glenn was shot as he prepared to deploy a tire deflation device on Tuesday near the area of US 19 and Newdale Church Rd. in Yancey County.
Glenn, a nine-year veteran assigned to Mitchell County, was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, a news release said. The suspect is not at large and there is no threat to the public, the patrol said without providing additional information.
The patrol directed questions on the chase and shooting to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
