Elizabeth City shooting claims three lives, including two from Manteo

A 3-year-old child and two adults are dead from gunshot wounds following a shooting incident late Thursday afternoon in Elizabeth City. Three more people were injured.

According to police and area news reports, police were called to the area of Perry Street and Jordan Street around 5 p.m. where several people were suffering from gunshot wounds. According to the Elizabeth City Police Department, 39-year-old Takeyia Berry and 3-year-old Allura Pledger, both of Manteo, and 18-year-old Jaquan White of Elizabeth City died as a result of their injuries.

“The Elizabeth City Police Department in conjunction with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s  Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are currently working together to follow up on all leads,” stated a press release issued Friday evening by the Elizabeth City Police Department. “There were multiple shell casing[s] recovered from the scene and this appears to be an isolated incident.

The Friday evening release also stated that further investigation identified three additional shooting victims who were injured: Roderick White, 40, and James Harris, 29, both of Elizabeth City, were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center where they were treated and released with non-life threatening injuries, and Terry Griffin, 20, of Elizabeth City, was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center where he was treated and transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he listed in stable condition.

The Elizabeth City Police Department stated this is an active investigation and urges those with any information to contact the Elizabeth City Police Department at 252-335-4321 or the Crime Line at 252-335-5555. “All information will remain anonymous and strictly confidential,” stated the release.

There is no word yet about a suspect.
