A common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) has a member of the mantis family in its beak at the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.
It is a reasonable guess that the mantis would rather not have been part of the grackle’s varied diet.
Grasshoppers, frogs, caterpillars, fish and a variety of nuts, seeds and grains are just some of the grackle’s other meal choices.
