Gator gazing at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge

On Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, the growth rate of the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) is slow. It can take 15 or more years for a gator to reach 6 feet in length. While driving around the refuge, keep any eye on the canals, shorelines and floating logs. There have been frequent alligator sightings this year, according to USFWS.
