Medicaid in North Carolina is changing. Beginning July 1, North Carolina Medicaid will move to prepaid health plans. About 1.6 million of the current 2.3 million Medicaid beneficiaries will transition to NC Medicaid Managed Care. Four health plans are available to residents in northeastern North Carolina.
On March 1, notifications were sent to approximately 4,000 Dare County Medicaid beneficiaries informing them that the open enrollment period runs through May 15, 2021. To date, a little more than 3% of beneficiaries have selected a plan. If a plan is not selected, after May 15, 2021, a health plan will be assigned.
Dare County Social Services has partnered with AmeriHealth Caritas of North Carolina, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina and WellCare of North Carolina to offer drive-through Medicaid educational events. Participants will learn what each of the plans offers and be able to ask questions.
Events planned in Dare are set for Friday, April, 23 from 1-4 p.m. at the Dare County Center in Manteo and Saturday, April 24 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.
