Congressman Greg Murphy, MD (NC-03) visited Wanchese Marine Industrial Park earlier this month and talked with park director Bob Peele, right, about the tour.
Murphy said the visit was an opportunity to learn more about marine-related business operations and their specific needs, adding that it was a fantastic opportunity to look at the Coast Guard shop and three different boat builders since the area seems to be a cornerstone for custom boat builders in the eastern part of the United States.
The 53-acre park, funded solely from operating receipts, opened in 1981 and has more than two dozen tenants.
This was not Murphy’s first visit to the area. He toured police and fire departments in November and said he was here on another visit two weeks prior to the industrial park visit.
