The family of the late James McClease accepted the Order of the Long Leaf Pine awarded to the longtime Town of Manteo employee.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the highest award for state service granted by the Office of the Governor.

During the presentation at the Manteo Board of Commissioners’ January 6 meeting, it was said McClease was a pillar of the organization and his tireless work throughout the community has left a lasting mark.

The board also voted to name the town’s Bowsertown facility The James A. McClease Sr. Bowsertown Municipal Complex.
