Travel trailer sites will be built at the Avon pier.
On Dec. 21, Dare’s commissioners approved a Conditional Use Permit for Avon Pier LLC, represented by Joe Thompson.
The project will install 26 sites on two of 4.85 acres for the pier property. A bathhouse dedicated for the travel trailer sites will be built. Existing storm water and wastewater treatment infrastructure will be used. The infrastructure was designed for a more intensive use that was not constructed. The project is to be completed in 12 months.
On Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, Dare’s commissioners will consider two more Conditional Use Permits.
On the board’s agenda, the Outer Banks Dare Challenge group development is Item 4.
The application requests expansion of its existing Wanchese facility at 2263 NC 345.
The expansion includes a 9,920-square foot multi-purpose building and two 1,768-square foot residential buildings, with each building accommodating 16 residents or staff.
The recommendation from the county’s planning board includes a five-year time period for securing the necessary permits and raising funds for the project.
The second Conditional Use Permit is for additional residential structures at Rodanthe Sunset Resort at 24280 NC 12. A second condominium building will be built with eight units, each with three bedrooms. The original concept for the resort featured commercial development. That use is dropped and two residential structures with 10 bedrooms each are proposed. The proposed conditional use permit grants five years to secure all permits necessary for construction.
