Kill Devil Hills, NC – Virginia Seits Taylor, 78, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Fondly known to all as “Ginny”, she was born in Astoria, NY, on September 25, 1942.  Ginny was the only child of the late Peter and Hermina Seits.

Ginny graduated from The Mary Louis Academy, in Jamaica, NY, and went on to earn her B.S. in Medical Technology from St. John’s University, also in NY.  As a younger woman, Ginny traveled the world and enjoyed sharing stories about her adventures. Her travels and adventurous spirit, eventually brought her to Southampton County and Zuni, Virginia, where she met and later married Hugh, her husband of 35 years. After settling down in Carrsville, VA., Ginny returned to her medical roots and worked for 17 years in the lab at (then) Southampton Memorial Hospital, and then went on to serve as the receptionist for Catholic Charities of Eastern VA. When not at work, you could find Ginny helping her beloved husband “Pop” with events for Taylor’s Catering, or enjoying time on the James River.

After retirement in 2012, Ginny and Hugh moved from Carrsville, to Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks of NC, where Ginny replaced her “normal job” with volunteer work. She supported the local Creative Choices and Crisis Pregnancy organization, supported Special Olympics activities, and volunteered at local nursing homes.  Ginny actively supported many charitable organizations and was a faithful cheerleader at the grandchildren’s events. Ginny loved knitting and crafts, but was most passionate about music. Music was her happy place. Whether she was listening to music, playing her instruments in church, practicing at home, or “jamming” with a local group, Ginny was a talented musician. She shared her passion with family and friends, and even Toby, the family dog.

Ginny was first and foremost a faithful and devout Catholic. While a resident of Franklin, VA, Ginny and Hugh attended St. Jude’s Catholic Church (Franklin), and Shrine of the Infant of Prague (Wakefield), where Ginny often provided music for the services. After moving to Kill Devil Hills, NC, Ginny and Hugh faithfully attended Holy Redeemer by the Sea, where Ginny was also active in the ‘Ladies of the Sea’ group. When Ginny’s health no longer allowed her to attend services in person, she would watch the services on her phone from home.

Ginny was a peacemaker, who only saw the good in people. She was a devoted wife to Hugh, and Hugh was a devoted and loving husband to Ginny, as he cared for her every need. Ginny and Hugh took care of each other…in sickness and in-health.

Left to cherish Ginny’s memory is her husband of 35 years, Hugh Slade Taylor Jr., of the home; and their children; Lisa Taylor Wiese (Bill), Cindy Taylor Benton (David), and Michael Edward Taylor (Danielle), all of Kitty Hawk, NC.; seven grandchildren, Austin M. Wiese (Melissa), Ashley M. Wiese, Chad M. Benton, Emmy G. Benton, Wade T. Benton, Justin M. Taylor, and Kassidy N. Taylor; one great-grandchild,  Amelia T. Wiese, and another one on the way. Ginny’s spirit will also be cherished by many, many dear special friends who have been such an important part of her life over the years. To know Ginny was to love Ginny.

The family would like to express their gratitude to OBX Oncology, OBX Radiation Therapy Center, Amedisys Hospice, and the many doctors, nurses, friends and neighbors who have prayed and helped Ginny through her illness.

At Ginny’s request, a private burial with the immediate family will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Courtland, VA.

Due to the current escalation of COVID-19, and the restrictions on public gatherings in the church, a private funeral mass to celebrate Ginny’s life was live-streamed on Tues., December 01, 2020, at 1 p.m., from St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Franklin, VA. There will not be a reception following the mass. A video of the mass will also be available on the Wright Funeral Home website after the service so that extended family and friends can safely watch from their homes. The family has the utmost concern for everyone’s health and safety and understands that travel and physical attendance is ill-advised during these unprecedented times.
