Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative customer service representatives, from left, Kristine Midgett, Angelia Jackson and Jackie Goldman hand out 75th anniversary celebration bags containing a blanket and mug while additional employees distributed 500 barbecue sandwiches on Monday, Oct. 26.
The drive-through event substituted for the cooperative’s annual meeting, which was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, Oct. 30, a brief power outage reminded Hatteras and Ocracoke islands how much of an impact cooperatives have on the islands. A ground wire broke. A Cape Hatteras Electric crew located the problem, fixed it and power was restored.
Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative, a member-owned, not-for-profit power distribution provider, now serves 7,726 members.
