Pamlico Sound and more closed to stretched mesh gill nets 4 to 6½ inches

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation M20-2020 closed all management units south of Management Unit A to the use of gill nets with a stretched mesh length of 4 inches through 6½ inches in accordance with Amendment 2 to the N.C. Southern Flounder Fishery Management Plan.

The closure was effective at 7:28 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.

The closure includes internal coastal waters, such as Pamlico Sound from the north end of Pea Island to the North Carolina-South Carolina border, Pamlico, Pungo, Bay and Neuse river drainages, Southern Core Sound, Back Sound and North River, Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and Harlowe Creek up to NC Hwy 101 Bridge and Bogue Sound.

It is unlawful to use run-around, strike, drift, drop and trammel gill nets with a stretched mesh length 5 inches and greater, states the proclamation.
