Vera Hawkins died peacefully at Peak Resources in Nags Head, NC, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. She was born in Slovenia and came to the US with her parents when she was young. After coming to the US, Vera worked during the day and studied English at night. She earned a BA degree from Carlow University and later earned her Master’s degree from New York University. She taught elementary school in the New York City school system and was well-loved by her students.

Vera was pre-deceased by her husband, Phil Hawkins, and is survived by her sister-in-law, Susan Hawkins Rich (Raymond Rich), nieces, Melanie Yaksich and Suzanne Rich, nephew Michael Rich, and several cousins.

A private service and burial were held at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Madison, NJ, on Thursday, October 15, 2020.
