Dare County Sheriff’s Office blotter: Multiple guns stolen in September

The Dare County Sheriff has released the felony crime blotter for the month of September for the unincorporated areas of the county.

During the month, 13 firearms were stolen in Rodanthe and Waves. Eleven of the 13 handguns were stolen from motor vehicles in two campgrounds located in the 24000 and 25000 block of NC 12, roughly between the Chicamacomico water tower and St. Waves Plaza.

“If you’re going to be a responsible gun owner, you certainly have to be responsible enough to put it in a secure location,” said Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie. “You’ve got to be able to secure your property!”

In other Hatteras Island villages, two crimes are reported in Frisco, one in Buxton and one in Avon.

Four crimes are reported in Wanchese and another four in Colington.
